Safety Notes on Lithium Polymer Batteries
Safety in using Polymer
cells or assemblies is your first priority.
If you do not understand the characteristics of Polymer cells or assemblies ask
before buying.
Please be sure
to read and follow these instructions carefully.
Warranty will not be considered if requirements are not followed.
1.
Charging
Only use chargers specially approved for Lithium Polymer cells or packs. Test
the charger to assure it works properly. Never leave your pack unattended during
the charging process. Always charge your packs outdoors and in a fire proof
container. Never exceed 1C charging current.
2.
Balancer
All
packs shall be used with a Balancer which protects the cells/packs properly. The
Balancer haves the function of preventing overcharging to maintain safety and
prevent significant deterioration of cell/pack performance. The Balancer will
ensure that no single cell reaches above 4.20 volts. Short circuit will destroy
the cells/packs which can cause overheating, burst and/or fire.
3.
Balancer Leads:
For 2S: Cell 1+: RED, Cell 2+: BLUE, Cell 2-: BLACK
For 3S: Cell 1+: RED, Cell 2+: BLUE, Cell 3+: YELLOW, Cell 3-: BLACK
For 4S: Cell 1+: RED, Cell 2+: BLACK, Cell 3+: BLUE, Cell 4+: GREEN, Cell 4-:
WHITE
4.
Storage
Always discharge cells with a specially approved discharger for Lithium Polymer
cells or packs. Never discharge a cell below 3Volt. Consider pack size during
the discharging process (3Cell pack min discharge voltage 9volt). Always store
Lithium Polymer cells or packs in a fire proof container.
5.
Consideration of Package Film Strength
The
aluminum laminate film of Polymer cells can be easily damaged by sharp edges
such as Nickel Tabs, Pins or Needles which voids warranty and renders the
cells/packs useless.
The seal of Polymer cells can be damaged by heat above approx 90 degrees Celsius
causing electrolyte leakage. Warranty is void and renders the cells/packs
useless.
6.
Prohibition of Short Circuit
Under no circumstances should Polymer cells/packs be shorted out.
Short circuit will generate high currents and cause overheating of the
cells/packs which may cause dangerous conditions like electrolyte leakage,
gassing and/or explosion. Exposed tabs of the Polymer cells are never to be
placed upon conductive materials.
7.
Mechanical Shock
Polymer cells have much less mechanical endurance than standard metal can cells.
Dropping, hitting, bending, etc. of Polymer cells will cause degradation of its
characteristics. Cutting, deforming, tearing, bending, twisting or drilling of
laminate film is not permitted. Polymer cells/packs are not to be charged or
discharged in tight spaces. Allow breathing room.
8.
Handling of Tabs
Polymer tabs are fragile and are not built to withstand force.
Polymer tabs are easily destroyed and torn off rendering the cells useless.
9.
Cell Connections
Charging cells/packs in reverse polarity will create an abnormal chemical
reaction which can cause cell rupture, fire, smoke or explosion.
10.
Prohibition of Disassembling of Cells or Packs
Disassembling any Polymer cell or pack is strictly prohibited.
Disassembling cells/packs can generate short circuit, fire, smoke or explosion.
If in contact with Polymer electrolyte, flush with fresh water and seek medical
attention.
Disassembling or removal of the protective shrink wrap will void guarantee.
11.
High Temperature Areas
Never leave Polymer cells or packs in a hot temperature environment.
In the trunk or under the windshield of a car can create extensive heating on
the cells or packs. This extreme heating will cause swelling and great damage to
the cells or packs.
12.
Dumping Cells or Packs in Fire
Incinerating or disposing of Polymer in fire is strictly prohibited.
13.
Polymer Cells or Packs Immersion
Polymer immersion into any liquid is absolutely dangerous and strictly
prohibited.
14.
Keep Polymer Away from Children
As
with all batteries, keep out of reach of babies and children.
In case of swallowing a battery seek immediate medical attention.
15.
Prohibition of High Pressure Containers
High pressure containers are microwaves will generate immediate heating which
will damage the sealing conditions of the cells causing fire, smoke, flame
leakage or explosion.
16.
Battery Cell Replacement
Cell replacement within a pack is prohibited.
17.
Use of Damaged Cells
If
the packaging film of a Polymer cell is deformed, ripped, punctured, has signs
of leakage or you smell the electrolyte it is rendered useless and is not to be
used ever.
Safety must be your first priority when using Lithium Polymer cells or packs. Educate yourself, Educate your friends and implement safe handling and usage of all Polymer Batteries
This Lithium Polymer Battery
is approved only for the Radio-Control Market.
Use in any other application is not permitted.
Charging, discharging, use for Electric Motors and Flying Models may cause
serious personal injury or property damage. In purchasing/using of this Lithium
Polymer Battery, the buyer/user, agrees to accept all responsibilities of these
risks and not to hold the manufacturer, its Distributors or Retailers (owners
and employees) responsible for any accidents, injury to persons, or damage to
property.
Since many Radio-Controlled applications exceed the manufacturer's recommended maximum discharge rates there is no warranty (expressed or implied) by the manufacturer, its Distributors and Retailers in respect to the Cycle Life, Capacity, Cell Characteristics or Storage of cells/packs used in the Radio-Controlled market.
