RC-Warbirds_Calendar_December2012_1920x1200

From Wikipedia:  The North American F-100 Super Sabre was a supersonic jet fighter aircraft that served with the United States Air Force (USAF) from 1954 to 1971 and with the Air National Guard (ANG) until 1979. The first of the Century Series collection of USAF jet fighters, it was the first USAF fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight. The F-100 was originally designed by North American Aviation as a higher performance follow-on to the F-86 Sabre air superiority fighter.

Adapted as a fighter bomber, the F-100 would be supplanted by the Mach 2 class F-105 Thunderchief for strike missions over North Vietnam. The F-100 flew extensively over South Vietnam as the Air Force’s primary close air support jet until replaced by the more efficient subsonic LTV A-7 Corsair II. The F-100 also served in other NATO air forces and with other U.S. allies. In its later life, it was often referred to as “the Hun,” a shortened version of “one hundred.”

November 2012 features the picture of a BVM Ultra Bandit taken during the 2007 Top Gun event in Lakeland Florida.

RC-Warbirds_Calendar_November2012_1920x1200

The Ultra Bandit is a turbine powered sport jet manufactured by BVM USA.
It features:

  • The Ultra Bandit is flight test proven to endure 200 mph and extreme aerobatics.
  • It has a generous wing area with built-in washout for very stable slow flight and landings.
  • Large control surfaces for “square corner” aerobatics.
  • Extra large landing flaps delete the need for speed brake devices and allow very slow landings.
  • Model grass field suitable – because it is big and powerful, it can take off and land in short distances.
  • Easy field assembly – We designed the 98″ long “Ultra” for quick assembly, allowing convenient transport to the model field. There are 2 screws and 2 servo connections per wing and stab and just 2 set screws for the fin, and if necessary, the aft fuse section can be removed with 4 set screws and 3 servo connections. With the wings removed, the Ultra Bandit will fit into many SUV’s. We make a special Jet Cradle to make your Ultra even easier to transport and work on.

From Wikipedia: The Beechcraft Model 18, or “Twin Beech”, as it is better known, is a 6-11 seat, twin-engine, low-wing, conventional-gear aircraft that was manufactured by the Beech Aircraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas. This model saw military service during and after World War II in a number of versions including the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) C-45 Expeditor, AT-7 Navigator, AT-11 Kansan; and for the United States Navy(USN), UC-45J Navigator and the SNB-1 Kansan.

The Beech 18 has over 200 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) available, each representing a modification to the original design.

In addition to carrying passengers the aircraft’s uses have included aerial spraying, sterile insect release, fish seeding, dry ice cloud seeding, aerial firefighting, airborne mail pick up and drop, ambulance service, numerous movie productions, skydiving, freight, weapon- and drug-smuggling, engine test bed, skywriting and banner towing. Many are now in private hands.

September 2012 – Desktop Wallpaper

September 2012 features the picture of a F-86 Sabre taken during the 2007 Top Gun event in Lakeland Florida.

RC-Warbirds_Calendar_September2012_1920x1200

From Wikipedia: The North American F-86 Sabre (sometimes called the Sabrejet) was a transonic jet fighter aircraft. Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as America’s first swept wing fighter which could counter the similarly-winged Soviet MiG-15 in high speed dogfights over the skies of the Korean War. Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in the Korean War, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of other eras. Although it was developed in the late 1940s and was outdated by the end of the 1950s, the Sabre proved versatile and adaptable, and continued as a front-line fighter in numerous air forces until the last active operational examples were retired by the Bolivian Air Force in 1994.

Its success led to an extended production run of more than 7,800 aircraft between 1949 and 1956, in the United States, Japan and Italy. Variants were built in Canada and Australia. The Canadair Sabre added another 1,815 airframes, and the significantly redesigned CAC Sabre (sometimes known as the Avon Sabre or CAC CA-27), had a production run of 112. It was by far the most-produced Western jet fighter, with total production of all variants at 9,860 units.

From Wikipedia: The Albatros D.V was a fighter aircraft used by the Luftstreitkraefte (Imperial German Air Service) during World War I. The D.V was the final development of the Albatros D.I family, and the last Albatros fighter to see operational service. Despite its well-known shortcomings and general obsolescence, approximately 900 D.V and 1,612 D.Va aircraft were built before production halted in early 1918. The D.Va continued in operational service until the end of the war.

July 2012 – Desktop Wallpaper

July 2012 features the picture of a Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing taken during the 2007 Top Gun event in Lakeland Florida.

RC-Warbirds_Calendar_July2012_1920x1200

From Wikipedia: The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is an American biplane with an atypical negative stagger (the lower wing is further forward than the upper wing), that first flew in 1932.
Sales began slowly. The first Staggerwings’ high price tag (between US$14,000 and US$17,000, depending on engine size) scared off potential buyers in an already depressed civil aircraft market. Only 18 Model 17s were sold during 1933, the first year of production, but sales steadily increased. Each Staggerwing was custom-built by hand. The luxurious cabin, trimmed in leather and mohair, held up to five passengers. Eventually, the Staggerwing captured a substantial share of the passenger aircraft market. By the start of World War II, Beechcraft had sold more than 424 Model 17s.

June 2012 – Desktop Wallpaper

June 2012 features the picture of a Bell X-1 Rocket Plane taken after it detached from it’s carrier bomber during the 2007 Top Gun event in Lakeland Florida.

RC-Warbirds_Calendar_June2012_1920x1200

From Wikipedia: The Bell X-1, originally designated XS-1, was a joint NACA-U.S. Army/US Air Force supersonic research project built by Bell Aircraft. Conceived in 1944 and designed and built over 1945, it eventually reached nearly 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h) in 1948. A derivative of this same design, the Bell X-1A, having greater fuel capacity and thus longer engine-burn time, exceeded 1,600 mph (2,574 km/h) in 1954. The X-1 was the first aircraft to exceed the speed of sound in controlled, level flight, and was the first of the so-called X-planes, an American series of experimental aircraft designated for testing of new technologies and usually kept highly secret.

RC-Warbirds_Calendar_April2012_1920x1200

From Wikipedia: The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (formerly AD) was an American single-seat attack aircraft that saw service between the late 1940s and early 1980s. It became a piston-powered,propeller-driven anachronism in the jet age, and was nicknamed “Spad”, after a French World War I fighter. The Skyraider had a remarkably long and successful career, even inspiring its straight-winged, slow-flying, jet-powered successor, the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

It was operated by the United States Navy (USN), the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and the United States Air Force (USAF), and also saw service with the British Royal Navy, the French Air Force, the Air Force of the Republic of Vietnam (VNAF), and others.
